Turbine Inlet

Nom Diameters up to 4000 mm
Pressure Range up to 30 Bar

Turbine Inlet Valve (TIV) isolates the turbine from the penstock and acts as principle protection for power station and also allows maintenance of Turbine during shutdown.

A TIV operates normally under a balanced head condition but is designed to close against the turbine’s full load and runaway flow with guide vanes open. Additionally TIV is designed for maximum pressure rise including water hammer condition.

The TIV normally opens via a hydraulic cylinder and is closed via counter weight as fail safe close mode to protect the turbine during an emergency power failure condition. Double acting hydraulic cylinder and penstock water operation designs are available if required. The valve disc can be slab or lattice design to minimise head loss depending on the pressure and valve size.

The TIV is custom designed for each application as a standard butterfly valve with hydraulic cylinder would not meet the hydro power application and TIV functionality.

*** The picture shows an eTec Turbine Inlet Valve which replaced an existing 1950’s lenticular disc with an inflatable seal.
This new valve was supplied with a low head loss slab disc and a resilient seal.
The existing penstock water operated cylinder was replaced with a compact double acting hydraulic cylinder.
Designed to suit existing penstock & spiral flanges, valve foundations and fit within existing envelope dimensions.
eTec's scope of supply included Valve assembly, Dismantling Joint and Bypass Needle Valve.
