Power Station Replacement Butterfly Valves

Background
As part of a strategy for refurbishment and upgrade of existing cooling water systems, Drax Power employed eTec to design, manufacture and install a replacement 96” Pump Discharge valve on the original Drax station in July 2008. The opportunity was also taken at that time to replace seals on 8 large butterfly valves within the C/W system.
Scope of Work
The replacement valve was designed to be compatible with existing pipework and incorporate feedback from operational experience.
The short outage of 48 hours available required careful planning and site supervision under confined space access limitations. The work was completed successfully within the outage and the plant returned to service.
eTec subsequently designed and manufactured a 2.4m hydraulically operated Pump Discharge valve as well as a 3m electrically operated interconnecting valve for the more recent Drax station. Both valves incorporated features to improve the operation of the valves.
Removal of the old valves and installation of the new valves was successfully carried out under eTec supervision in April 2009.
